Buying a new anchor for your yacht or sailboat

Buying a new anchor for your yacht or sailboat can be a tricky task, due to the vast amount of anchor styles and designs to choose from.

We have covered a few tips on choosing the right anchor for your yacht or sailboat:
1. An ideal anchor should be able to dig in fast every time it is cast and should not collect too much debris from the water on return, such as weeds and rubbish.

  1. Anchors that bury deep are able to accumulate a great mass of seabed above them, generating stronger holding power the deeper it buries, creating a more effective anchor. This is ideal for the larger sail boats and yachts, or for rougher waters.
  2. The holding power is the resistance offered before the anchor starts to drag. Apart from the burying depth, the anchor’s surface area and its blade’s profile also determine its holding power.
Buying a new anchor for your yacht or sailboat should be considered as an investment. This is because it is something that you plan to use for several years to come.
